Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition In order to assist our students to improve their speaking skills, the English department enables them to participate in an online debating competition organized by the Native-speaking English Teacher Section on 28 May 2021. The motion was “The government should impose a compulsory carbon offset tax on the sale of airline tickets”. Our students was on the affirmative side of the debate while students from Yu Chun Keung Memorial College took the opposite stance. Debating encourages our students to be more active in speaking English Language. In addition, it has seen our students improve their communication skills in leaps and bounds; not only are the students better in communication skills, but have also improved in structural presentation skills making them relatively well-balanced in English Language speaking. Although our team did not advance, the judge gave constructive feedback on individual speakers and our students were inspired by the advice.
